Award-winning novelist, editor and writing trainer
I have been working with words all my life. My first children's novel, The Man Who Snarled at Flowers, won the M-Net Book Prize, then the biggest literary award in South Africa.
My latest book, The Essentials of Great Writing, which draws on some of the world's most brilliant authors for inspiration, was published in Sydney in August 2009. It is based on my years of experience giving innovative business writing courses in Australia to top corporations, government departments and not-for-profit organisations, and writing speeches, case studies, brochures and many other documents.
Exciting writing training courses
I am currently Managing Partner of Express Editors, a Sydney-based communication consultancy that writes, edits and gives writing training courses for a wide range of blue-chip clients.

Express Editors recently added a brand-new course to our suite of business writing courses. I have joined forces with top trainer and presentation coach Chemene Sinson to present Speak your mind: advanced presentation skills.
Making great speeches and presentations is a key to executive success. Yet many of us are nervous about appearing before audiences, and often fail to connect with, motivate and inspire them. I teach you how to write a speech that wins the hearts and minds of your audience, and Chemene trains you to deliver it with flair and confidence.

Editorial services
I write and edit for corporations and government and not-for-profit organisations. If you want a speech written for the CEO, a brochure with pizzazz, or a thought leadership piece worthy of a top newspaper, contact me at Express Editors.
I am also Managing Editor of Eco Editors, a communication consultancy specialising in environmental, science, health and education matters. So if you want expert copy in these important areas, contact me.
Read what one of my clients has to say about how I have helped to upgrade his team's writing skills through a combination of training and editorial advice:
"My team is part of a global pharmaceutical company. We write submissions to government requesting funding for new medicines. Tony has improved the quality of our writing dramatically over the past year.
"Before working with Tony we struggled to cut through the complexity of the information we present in our submissions. At its worst, our writing was dense, clumsy and unpersuasive. At the outset, Tony worked hard to sell the value of elegant writing to us - a hard task in a team of scientifically-trained sceptics! He has taken us through the elements of persuasive language, covering structure, style, reasoned argument and editing.
"Good writing is hard work and Tony is a demanding coach. He gives candid feedback if our work is not up to scratch and spends significant time with us as we finalise the arguments in our submissions. There is no question that we have reaped a substantial dividend from our time with Tony, not only in delivering good documents, but also in achieving great results.
"I have no reservations in recommending Tony to any business that depends on good writing."
Christian Sellars, Director, Market Access & Policy, Merck Sharp and Dohme (Australia).
Public speaking
I am an experienced public speaker who has appeared at a number of conferences and made presentations at breakfast, lunch and cocktail events for a variety of major organisations. My speciality is the power of the written word to motivate and inspire - and increase the competitiveness of your business.
My background
I have been Editor-in-chief of Reader's Digest magazine in South Africa and then in Australia. Before that I worked as a senior journalist on both daily and Sunday newspapers. As well as writing hard news stories about floods, court cases, scientific discoveries and just about anything else you can think of, I have been a restaurant reviewer and a sociopolitical columnist.
I would love to hear from you if you believe my writing, editing, speaking and training skills would be of use to you!
